Survey and focus group

To gain some information on our target audience we conducted a survey and posted it on twitter which allowed us to see what they think our music video should consist of and the type of actors we should use for our artist.

The first question that we asked was "What character traits do you expect to see within a hip-pop/pop artist"The feedback that we go was mainly similar and consisted of them saying that they should be very confident , styles and good looking.

We also asked "how would you expect them to look and what would you expect them to wear" and the results of this was That they thought they woulds normally wear smart casual clothes such as chinos and polo and they need to look cool and most people  say that the male and female should be mix raced as that's what would look more appealing and its what is conventional of a hip-pop video.

The audience feedback also suggests that the artist of pour song sounds similar to Mario and Jason Derulo which means that we would have a  strong fan base if we make our artists song similar.The audience also expects us to  make our artist lip syn and perform within the music video. They also agreed with the idea of creating the video in a happy light and showing the good times they have had in a relationship. Most of the audience also said they they think we should use London as our main location as it is crowded and shows their relationship together and then show there relationship separated for example when with friends or just on their own.

The audience also said that they music tastes was affect by the area that they live which would be the urban area therefore this will help us when creating our Digi-packs and advertisement as we can make it more urban rather then green and showing the country sides.  

Allot of the audience has said they would use the ideas of similar artists such as Jason derulo and neyo which means that the song is also as appealing to them as one of their songs is therefore suggests that we have a strong target audience.


Overall I think that the feedback from the survey conformed with what our focus was saying as we asked the same question to contrast there opinions.

This is the focus group which me and my partner conducted after our results of our survey. We asked similar questions to our survey to compare the feedback that we got from our survey and we found that most of the results are the same , which shows that we have a strong target audience and our idea is appealing.

For example They agreed with the idea however wanted the video to be slightly cheesy and humorous whereas the survey suggested that it should be a typical love song.

1:01- Katherine's physical description was that "they should be casual and not over the top" and Aleemos also commented on the appearance of our artist and said "I think the artist should be mix raced" which matches the image that the partner and I have of the artist. As this is the first time she is listening to the song, her opinion is essential to us because she had no background knowledge of the artist at all, which tells us that the image we expect the artist to have, and what the audience expect them to have, matches well, thus showing us as meeting our target audience well. Aleemos also said that he thinks our artist "sounds like omarion" which shows that if people are comparing our artist to big name stars such as omarion there needs to a persona that needs to be created with the character which is similar to me and my partners ideas.

5:56- Aleemos took initiative and gave us further feedback, elaborating on the question I asked them, and going into more detail about his point which we loved about him. As well as understanding our views, he also gave examples of how we could make our music video. for example he said "Chris Brown- Forever and  Excuse Me Miss" which follow the same structure we wish to create and shows that are music video ideas quite popular as these music videos was.

Overall I think the research hasn't affected me and my partners ideas as they was very similar however they did make some comparisons which we didn't expect therefore shows that we need to think about the characters personality more then we though as that was something they compared to other artists straight away.
